Safari 2.0.1 – updated WebKit or not?
So Apple released an update for Safari yesterday, version 2.0.1 but my question I can’t seem to find an answer to is, did they update WebKit? (Safari’s engine) Apple’s update information states: “Safari version 2.0.1 for Mac OS X Tiger improves website compatibility, application stability and support for 3rd party web applications.” “improving website compatibility” sounds like they added an improved version of WebKit, doesn’t it? But if so, why didn’t they release the newest version of WebKit, I mean the one that passes the Acid2 test? I’ve tested it, and it seems pretty stable to me, and I’m sure that with a bit off effort it could of been ready since when I tested it about 2 months ago. and the worst part is that the test app, that launches Safari with this development build, doesn’t seem to work with Safari 2.0.1, it crashes on the Acid2 test site!
Oh well, I guess we’ll have to wait a bit more…
