Can open source website templates really be good?
A digg earlier today pointed out the 10 most popular opensource website templates, and some people claimed that the templates really sucked. This got me curious, and I asked the question: “Are there any GOOD open source templates at all?”. The answer is yes, and they can be found right here.
As a continuation of the discussion going on at Digg.com, here’s my viewpoint (and yes, I’m a member of openwebdesign.org)
YES!
Just take a look at some designs by Andreas, LanVacation, Snop, Nautical, Pogy366, JayKay and Frozen
OK, no we cleared the fact theat they’re actually some great designs out there, free to use. in fact, this site uses an open source design by Andreas.
But there’s more to it: being part of an open web design community is a great way to learn from others and get Ideas and feedback for your designs, and to learn allot about web design. so I don’t see what can be bad about it…

I agree with you 100%. There are a lot of good designs on openwebdesign.org and a lot of great people too.
A lot of the designs are not ready for commercial use but they are a very good starting point for many projects or to learn from.
I’ve learned a lot from the designs and great users of the community and forum.
