there is a better way ive written it up below :

#ok this looks really long and complicated but its not and when you do it you will be away making ringtones lol

first of all if you need to make sure you can change the file extensions on your computer freely,

> got to "control panel"

> go to "folder options"

> "view" tab

> then you need to make sure that the box saying "hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.

> "apply"

> "ok"

now open itunes.

> find the song you want as a ringtone.

> "right click" it and got to "get info"

> iphone ringtones can only be 30 seconds long, so using the "start" and "stop" times choose
which 30 seconds of the song you want.

> click "ok"

> now "right click" the song then "create aac version"

> this will dupilicate the song but you will se the time on the new version is 30 seconds

> find this song in the itunes folder or wherever you store your music (it will have the extension "m4a")

> cut and paste it to the desktop

> "right click" the song on your desktop, go to properties

> in the song name it should show the song name and the file extension eg. "songname.m4a"
if it doesn't have the "m4a" you need to repeat step 1

> change the "m4a" to "m4r" (im guessing the r means ringtone)

> click "apply/ok" you will get a pop up message asking if youre sure you want to change it just click "yes"

> notice the icon now says ring

> go back to itunes

> click "file"

> "add file to library" then choose the file from the desktop

> now you should automatically get an extra playlist thing called "ringtones" once you have this you dont have
to import anymore you cna just drag the modified tunes form the desltop to that playlist

notes

make sure to change you original track start and stop times to what they were
if your iphone is already plugged in you need to unplug then plug back in for the ringtones to apear on it,

Hope this helps peeps.

I hate ringtones - and I think the only reason people use them is because they are the only option phone-makes have given users to customize their phones. Best ringtones I've found are at http://www.iringpro.com . Just simple rings - not songs, not annoying sound fx. Mellow cool rings.

@Connaa: Yes, but I've read many reviews that show it not having very good quality. Also, it can't record videos.

Absolutely agree! All those endless ringtones are getting on my nerves. There are so many ways to get ringtones, except bying them for $0,99, that it becomes absolutely useless!
