Why are you still using Internet Explorer?

killie.jpg

Yes, You!

Yesterday I noticed that 41.7% of you are still using Internet Explorer. And this is a blog written by a Mac fanatic, and which most probably cannot be understood by the common non techie english speaker. So you don’t have excuses like “that’s what my computer came with and installing software is too overwhelming for me”.

If you are using Internet Explorer, and you actually gave a thought to what browser you are using, you will probably argue in favor of features, comfort, or stability. You are missing the point, Completely.

The main technologies that run the web, (X)HTML and CSS, are not utilized to their full potential due to a lack of support from the most popular web browser, Internet Explorer. By using Internet explorer, you are helping in perpetuating the web, and making advancement more difficult.

Not to mention from my perspective (and any web developers perspective) the need to find hack to make sites look normal in a non standards compliant browser ads another %50 work time and expense, which can be used for better things.

If you want to know more about why IE is bad for you, check out Kill IE

To end this with good news, I just wand to link to this article that states that in Europe, Firefox has a 28% market share. Soon enough the world will catch up. Let’s hope.

i totally agree with u. i have no idea why people are dumb enough to still use ie- it’s the most primitive problematic browser.

  2. morad stern | February 17, 2008,

    I agree too.
I started using portable firefox (disk on key version) and i am very satisfied.
I am trying to convince my wife to use firefox, but she wont listen…

exactly why I’m using IE8, you moron

I use IE and Fre Fox. IE7 is very slick and I love it plus there are many sites out there that you have to use IE on. I do use Firefox most of the time because there are many pluggins available that I like to use.

Alot of people who moan about IE 6 and 7, instead use firefox, which also does not conform to web standards ( eg: Acid test 2 (Although yes this is not official w3c )).

  7. Jason Cole | March 8, 2008,

Firefox may have more rendering flaws than IE 8, but firefox doesn’t crash more than one a day. once everything makes the ACID2 test, we will be on to ACID3, and by then, the hordes of IE 6 and IE 7 users will simply not get much internet.

Mostly because a lot of work places only have IE and people can’t install other programs. I do however second the motion to stop using IE.

ALL PEOPLE WORKING IN AN OFFICE – GET YOUR IT TO CONVERT ALL YOUR COMPUTERS TO FIREFOX! MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

FIREFOX MAKES YOU APPEAR 10 YEARS YOUNGER

    propaganda ftw

I use Mozilla, the simple reason is, it is more powerfull than IE and IE has lot of bugs even in newer versions too.

Ah Ha the old IE V it’s rivals connundrum. Here’s a thing, I work in a secondary school as a web developer, our windows network needs IE to function correctly, virtually all of our staff & students use IE at home, basically our entire audience uses IE and will probably only ever use IE. Consequently I have to take my target users into account with everything I do. Yep Firefox is fab & Safari works fine under windows. They are even available to users on the network but guess what….thay ‘Prefr’ IE. It’s just the way most people are. It’s familiar and they understand it. It’s a no brainer really for them. Lets face it the world is and will probably be windows/IE based for a LONG LONG time yet. We all know that Audi make better cars than Ford but most folks drive Fords. Simple. Until the day that changes I have no probs with designing for IE, it might be a pain but thats the way things are. “Get over it” as the kids are fond of saying.

My friends and I always install firefox on every school computer we encounter. It’s actually kind of funny when most of the faculty doesn’t know what the hell firefox is and are completely counfounded when it comes to using opensource software. They think we pirated the stuff or something. Sigh, I guess the thought of free open-source software (FOSS) is so foreign to most people they resort to whatever Microsoft gives ‘em. Though, it’s funny whenever the school network admin is called to uninstall “unauthorized software”. ;)
