It’s been almost a year since I last posted anything to this blog. I don’t know if I can call this a blog and myself a blogger. The good news is, blogs are so 2006. In 2010 web 2.0 is ancient and social media is for grandmothers. Everyone is busy maintaining several profiles and presences on different sites, and then trying to link them all and not get lost in the mess.

About a year ago, in a little spurt of craziness, I started transferring this blog into a multi section magazine to cover my different interests. I never finished the project, and didn’t post for a whole year, because I made my site too overwhelming even for myself to post. In retrospect I don’t know what I was thinking, I can barely keep a regular blog going.

I’ve seen on-and-off bloggers like myself poking in once every few months and announcing “I’m Back” only to hibernate for another 6 months. I’m not saying I’m back, maybe the way blogging works for me is when it’s not on tight timeframe, and that’s OK with me.

Anyways, Here’s a recap of lot’s of things I would have posted about in 2009, and some plans for 2010.

I got a job working for a web/SEO Company

I’m now trained as a professional pastry chef (It was fun, and who knows, I might use it professionally one day

I’m perhaps warming up to the idea of using twitter, and tweets will probably get aggregated here as asides or “mini posts”

About 5 years too late, I started using Delicious and I love it.

I’m putting allot of effort in making OpenDesigns something really special

I quit my job in order to dedicate myself to my sites and freelace work and consulting – - I live the independence, and currently i’d consider taking a job only at Google, or perhaps Automattic

So that’s it for now, next update to come sometime in the future.

The George Bush Shoe incident, where and iraqi reporter threw his shoes at George Bush at a press conference, produced a huge number of flash games and animated gifs (yes, people still make those).
Here is a selection of Bush-Shoe games:

Sock and Awe lets you practice your aiming skills without being arrested. The most challenging game of them all. THe site was sold after 4 days for $8000. Why didn’t I think of something like that?

Duck Duck Bush – Lets you throw stuff at George Bush and hear him mumble, Though it’s not a real game with scores etc.

This particular game is more like a mathematical puzzle. You set the angle and strength, and the game calculates if, where and how hard you hit the world’s favorite president.

Ninja bush – Aim your shoes at Bush, but beware, he will fight you back with baseballs.

Bye Bye Bush – In this game, multiple Bushes appear in a 3D grid, and you have to hit them within a time limit.

This game, for a change, lets you play George W, and your objective is to dodge the shoes.

Shoe Bush Worldwide has the nicest graphics and audio, but is not much of a game, because W doesn’t duck or run. Apparently, it’s main purpose is to promote “Shoe Bush” merchandise.

The Bush Game – Another one. Cool generic gimmick, it is easy to hit, and there’s no audio or visible way to know if you hit.

Important:
If you are upgrading from an earlier version of WPPA and it says “No Albums Yet” after you upgrade, you will need to access your WordPress database with an administration tool such as PHPMyAdmin and change the tables ‘wppa_albums’ and ‘wppa_photos’ to ‘wp_wppa_albums’ and ‘wp_wppa_photos’. This is assuming your table prefix is ‘wp_’ if it is something else, then replace ‘wp_’ with your table prefix.

For anyone here that follows facebook, there’s allot of contreversy around facebook’s new design.

During one of my daily visits to the book, i learned that one of my friends joined a group called “IF 10 MILLION JOIN MARC ZOMBERG WILL BRING BACK THE OLD FACEBOOK!”. In the descrription, the group’s founder writes a follows:

Today I received a message from Marc Zomberg the founder of the greatest company and he told me to make this group he wants to know how many people really want the old facebook back, so he could bring it back.

Now we need everyone who want the old facebook back to join this group and invite everyone because he gave us only 20 days to do this.

Hurry up and invite we only have 20 days to do this.

At first I though it was just some idiot that didn’t know that facebook’s founder is Mark Zuckerberg, not Marc Zumberg. But then I noticed a few things that make mee feel this is a practical joke/social experiment.
1. Marc Zumberg is referred to as “the founder of the greatest company”. If this is a joke, not saying facebook outright adds even more value and fun to it.
2. Comments and discussions are not enabled for this group, thus stopping anyone from blowing the whistle.
3. The style of the description, like common mail froward scams, ads even more pun to it.

So what’s really amazing? So far 941,898 people joined this group, and are hoping that “Marc Zumberg” will bring back the old facebook.

Well, sorry guys, my inside information tells me that Marc Zumberg can’t bring back the old facebook, as it has been abducted by aliens and being held in the same secret place they are holding Elvis.

Yes, I know I haven’t posted here in ages, but hey, people gut busy.
I’ve been getting loads of emails about my plugin, but sadly I don’t really have time to answer them all. I’m in the process of setting up a forum so questions won’t have to be answered more then once.

I’d like to share with the world a comment I got from a nice guy named kurt, on a post discussing my Photo Album Plugin.

That plugin sux, just a wast of time, nothing works, and the tutorial is damm the worst I´ve ever seen, to make something useful, you should go MUCH MUCH better than this. Ithink to learn something to do this coold be easier and thats what i´ll do.
Go to hell!

OK, maybe my plugin does suck, people are entitled to their opinion. But what people are not entitled to are virtual slaves. I worked on this plugin in my free time, and I’m giving it out for free. I don’t owe it to anyone that the plugin meet all and everyones needs. But “Go to hell”??? Well, if trying is considered a crime, them I’m as guilty as it gets. Oh, and if you want to make something better, please do, allot of people can benefit from it.

You may have noticed that a ReviewMe paid review appeared on this blog. Am I selling out?
Well, being a work-from-home freelancer, I am exploring new ways of making money online. But I don’t want to compromise the quality of my personal blog. I put too much time and effort into it.
The good thing about ReviewMe.com is that the review does not have to be positive. So I will try to always say what I feel. Right now, being on the bottom of the ReviewMe food chain, the only offers I’m receiving are for sites that are spammy or just plain crappy. I only will review sites that have some interest to this blog’s topics, and are at least attempts at something useful. If I think sites need improvement, that’s what constructive criticism is about.
Ideally, I would like to review those cool sites that any blogger would be glad to review for free. But they don’t pay for reviews, do they?

I would like to ask the readers, is it annoying in any way to read a blog with payed reviews?

Welcome to web 2.1, the social web. Following MySpace, Facebook, Blogger and others, it’s the new thing. Site owners realized that their real power is their users, and getting them more involved can only do good. Thoughts.com is a social networking site that offers free blogs for the users, as well as the Thoughts.com Forums.

The forum is quite alive, and has over 30,000 members. The sub forums cover a super-wide range of subjects, and basically covers anything and everything. I think this can be useful so every user finds his niche, but sometimes over broadening the spectrum can be overwhelming for users that want to belong to something more specific.

The site home page contains latest blog posts as well as latest news.
The site offers photo, video and podcast uploading systems, made simple for users. Again, a lack in proper categorizing makes the spectrum a bit too broad for a user to actually find content he is looking for. Most podcasts are just songs. Podcast episodes do not seem to be linked together, which is a real downside is someone wants to get seriously into podcasting. Same with photos, only one category, uncategorized, which contains 823 pages of pure randomness.

As for the blogging service, there’s no distinctive style and all the posts look a bit mashed together. I thought I would be able to write more about this, but it looks quite disappointing.

Bottom Line, Users are king, and with the nice number of users, this site definitely has potential, but is also needs some fine-tuning.
